0-250mph in 20 sec. with 4 engines!
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:44:09 PM »
The new Regera at the Geneva Motor show on Tuesday, a Swedish supercar, & the company's first plug-in hybrid. It boasts four engines and a total output of 1782bhp.

Alongside a traditional 5-liter, turbocharged V8 engine are two small electric motors running to each of the rear wheels plus another electric motor in the crankshaft. And although the company's head, Christian Von Koenigsegg wouldn't mention precise performance figures, he said it's capable of accelerating from 0-250mph in under 20 seconds.

But thanks to its electric motors, the car can be driven smoothly and silently around town, on battery power alone that can be plugged in or draw power from the traditional gas engine in order to recharge.

The Regera doesn't have a transmission. All of that power from all of the motors goes directly to the rear wheels via a hydraulic clutch and torque vectoring. The lever in the cockpit is simply for putting the Regera into reverse when parking.

By finding a way of mating all of the different motors to the rear wheels without a traditional transmission system, Koenigsegg claims that it has solved one of the biggest problems associated with building a hybrid -- extra weight and complexity.

Only 80 examples of the Regera will ever be built and will cost around $1.9 million each.

But does it come in red, white or black?
