The reason there's not windows 9 is because of the embarrassment & failure of W8 & 8.1, they didn't want to come out with a new version that would seem like a continuation of 8 & 8.1. So they skipped 9, & came out with Windows 10... a marketing gimmic. Indeed, the reason for 8.1 was to fix what they can with Windows 8. But don't believe the hype people, or be impressed by the number 10. Windows 10 is really just Windows 8.2.

Windows 8 does have it's fans though. It depends on what you're used to, & what hardware you're using. Rather than using a REAL computer, if most of your computer experience has been limited to touch screens like on phones, &  small tablets, Windows 8 may be just your type of OS. But if you need to get a lot of work done (like on a real keyboard), are a company, or need your OS to be compatible with a lot of different hardware & software, W7 is the best available. If you're smart & handy, you can get a supported military or Chinese version of XP, but that's too tricky, sneaky, & difficult for most of us. XP isn't as secure as a modern OS anyway. Don't get me started on Vista. It's just not an option because it's the worst OS that Microsoft ever came out with.

But with W8 fans, it's also is a hardware issue. People mistakenly claim that W8 is the fastest OS they ever had. Some computers, hardware, & software are just simply designed to run W8 better than W7. W8 is very slow & bloated. But it will run better on a machine designed to run W8 well than W7 will on the same machine. But the reverse is true also. A machine designed for XP, W7, or Vista will usually run W7 much faster & better than W8 on the same machine.

There's also comparing apples with oranges. A fast dual or quad core machine with 4gb or more of RAM, & possibly a decent video card will run W8 faster than W7 will on a single core 1.8ghz computer with only 2gb or less of RAM. It's just that a faster better machine will run better. It had nothing to do with the OS.

I had high hopes for Windows 10. But now I hear W10 won't accept drivers & driver updates from your hardware manufacturers. It will only accept many drivers & driver updates directly through Microsoft's Windows updates. All windows updates will be maditory & cannot be refused. Particularly, W10 will not accept drivers & driver updates from Nvidia for their video cards. You can only get them through Microsoft. Nvidia is the most popular video cards in the world.

My Nvidia cards & drivers for my other hardware would not function properly using Microsoft drivers & their driver updates. For best function & performance I always have to get my Nvidia drivers from Nvidia. My primary PC running Windows 7, wouldn't even run or boot if I relied on Microsoft it's drivers & driver updates. Every knowledgeable & experienced techie out there will tell you to never get your drivers from Micorsoft, & always get them from you're hardware's manufacturer.

For best performance on some of my machines, I even had to force-install of some Vista drivers.

Article:
Windows 10 is to be released to the general public on July 29th.

Windows 10 automatic updates conflicts with third party drivers.

The problem is a conflict between automatic updates and Nvidia graphics card updates using Nvidia’s, Nvidia GeForce Experience, a handy tool for all Nvidia owners. Microsoft has taken control away from users, and made all updates mandatory, including driver updates.

Users are reporting problems with multi-monitor setups, dual-card configurations and PCs not booting properly, setting off Windows 10 emergency recovery mode.

For a lot of PC users & Nvidia card users, Windows 10 could be a problem, especially at launch. Gamers are especially at risk given the likelihood of that they are running Nvidia graphics cards, as well as dual-GPU and dual-monitor setups.

Nvidia drivers aren’t the only problem facing Windows 10 automatic updates. Since Windows 10 is delivering manditory driver updates automatically, it can conflict with many of third party peripheral makers. Things could get crazy very quickly, since Windows 10 updates are unstoppable... a very questionable decision on Microsoft’s part.

/ Latest images from Pluto
« on: July 06, 2015, 02:11:51 AM »
As of July 3, 2015, the New Horizons is still too far away to get any decent pictures of Pluto, but they are getting a little bit better. July 4th, due to a computer glitch the spacecraft was put into safe mode. But should resume ordinary operations today. They may take only 1 picture today.

So here's what we got of tiny Pluto so far, dramatically enhanced by me, & my own special software. You won't find any better pictures of Pluto as of today at this time anywhere else yet.

/ Indonesian Volcano Erupts 50 times
« on: June 12, 2015, 12:08:41 AM »
A volcano in Indonesia is spewing large clouds of superheated gas and ash high into the air, posing threats to nearby villages.

Mount Sinabung, a 1.5 mile high volcano is located in North Sumatra's Karo district.

The volcano spewed hot ash that made its way down the mountain's slope up to 1.5 miles from Sinabung's mouth.

Over 2,700 people have so far been evacuated from nearby villages. Farmers from these villages harvested their crops quickly out of fear that these could be destroyed should there be an eruption.

Surono said that the lava dome's growing size is unstable and that boiling rocks may tumble down the mountain anytime.

The volcano has been spewing ash and smoke more than 1,640 feet into the air since Monday. By early Wednesday, more than 50 separate eruptions had already been counted..

Mount Sinabung erupted in 2013, shooting out black ash and rocks almost two miles into the air, prompting authorities to evacuate villages along the mountain's slope and leading to at least 1,300 people fleeing their homes.

The volcano is one of about 130 active volcanoes in this country. Although it was dormant for the past four centuries, it started erupting at irregular intervals starting in 2010. An eruption of the mountain last year killed at least 17 people.

About 75 percent of Indonesia's population resides within 62 miles of an active volcano. Indonesia is also home of the Toba volcano, a supervolcano. The Toba supereruption that happened thousands of years ago is one of the largest known eruptions that occurred on Earth.

Indonesia is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity because it lies along the so-called "Ring of Fire," that circles most of the pacific ocean.

This year's month of May was marked by a number of volcanoes erupting from the Ring of Fire. Eruptions occurred in Chile, Costa Rica and Japan.

/ Streets Melt as it hits 122F in India
« on: May 26, 2015, 01:28:42 PM »
And you thought 80F was hot?

At least 800 people have died in a major heatwave that has swept across India, melting roads in New Delhi as temperatures neared 122F (50C).

Authorities advised people to stay indoors, with no end in sight to the searing conditions.

Hundreds of people, mainly from the poorest sections of society, die at the height of summer every year across the country, while tens of thousands suffer power cuts from an overburdened electricity grid.

Streets were deserted in Hyderabad, capital of the worst hit state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India where there were 551 heat related deaths last week.

Hyderabad street vendor P. Gangamma said the heat was making her head pound, but she had no choice but to stay outside.

"For the past three days hot wind has been coming in," said the 65-year-old, who sells cigarettes on a busy intersection.

"I am a diabetes patient, but I have no husband and no sons, so I have to stay here and keep shop."

Large parts of India, including the capital New Delhi, have endured days of sweltering heat, prompting fears of power cuts as energy-guzzling air conditioners work overtime.

The Hindustan Times daily said the maximum temperature in the capital hit a two-year high of 45.5 degrees Celsius on Monday -- five degrees higher than the seasonal average. The paper carried a front-page photo of a main road in the city melting in the heat, with the white pedestrian crossing stripes curling and spreading into the black asphalt.

"It's baking hot out here -- our outing has turned into a nightmare," said Meena Sheshadri, a 37-year-old tourist from the western city of Pune who was visiting Delhi's India Gate monument with her children. "My throat is parched, even though I've been constantly sipping water."

Delhi street food vendor Hari Om said business was slow, with few people venturing out in the furnace-like conditions. "All the food is getting spoilt even though I prepared it fresh in the morning. It's bad business but what to do," he said. "People are not coming out and they also don't feel like eating. All they want is to sip cold water all day."

In Telangana state, which borders Andhra Pradesh in the south, 231 people have died in the last week as temperatures hit 48 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

In the western state of Orissa 11 people were confirmed to have died from the heat.

Another 13 people have died in the eastern state of West Bengal, where unions urged drivers in the city of Kolkata to stay off the roads during the day.

India's power industry has long struggled to meet rapidly rising demand in Asia's third largest economy, with poorly maintained transmission lines and overloaded grids.

The Hindustan Times warned that some of the hot, dry conditions could plunge the worst-affected states into drought before monsoon rains arrive.

The monsoon is forecast to hit the southern state of Kerala towards the end of this month before sweeping across the country, but it will be weeks before the rains reach the arid northern plains.

/ Galapagos volcano threatens Pink Iguanas
« on: May 26, 2015, 11:25:10 AM »
A Galapagos Island volcano erupted Monday morning, threatening a unique species of pink iguanas.

The roughly 1.1-mile high Wolf volcano is located on Isabela Island, is home to a wide variety wildlife that helped inspire Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

The Wolf volcano is not located near a populated area, so there is not risk to humans. but the island has is the only population of pink iguanas in the world.

Wolf volcano, is the Galapagos Island's highest point. The volcano's dark plume or smoke & ash was estimated to be 6.4 miles high. The volcano had been inactive for 33 years.

The lava is flowing down the volcano's southern face while the iguanas, officially an endangered species, inhabit the opposite side, so the animals may escape harm.

The flow is likely to reach the sea, where it could harm marine life. Populated areas of the island are safe from the lava, but some of the ash cloud could descend upon the area & effect wildlife.

In April, unusual seismic activity was also reported at the Sierra volcano on the same Isabela Island, where yellow, orange iguanas and giant turtles also live.

The eruption on the Ecuador island comes just weeks eruptions in neighboring Chile, another South American country located on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

NASA, working on a project called EmDrive may have accidentally stumbled upon a warp drive. A real-life warp drive may be a possiblility thanks to readings that indicate the EmDrive’s resonance chamber sent beams traveling faster than the speed of light. Researchers have considered the possibility of traveling faster than the speed of light, but until the recent NASA study, the feat had never been achieved.

The researchers note that though beams that were shot into the EmDrive were recorded at speeds faster than light, there is still one more study that must be performed to determine with certainty that the light speed barrier was broken. Scientists note that the beams must be shot through the EmDrive in a vacuum environment. This will ensure that the effect was not a result of atmospheric heating.

Physicist Miguel Alcubierre is the one who came up with the concept of a warp bubble that would warp spacetime around an object. The idea is that a warp bubble could be created in which a stationary spaceship was placed inside. The bubble in front of the ship would contract spacetime while the spacetime expands behind it. However, the idea was never proven as feasible until the recent EmDrive finding.

Some scientists are looking to the possibility of time travel if the warp speed would be achieved in the vacuum setting. They note that the space travelers would not be crushed by the intense speeds because Alcubierre’s model would place the ship in a stationary position.

/ Yellowstone will not blow soon
« on: April 24, 2015, 09:14:36 PM »
Yellowstone's magma chambers are much larger than ever imagined, but the good news is that they contain too little molten rock to cause Yellowstone to erupt soon.

A huge reservoir of magma and hot rock beneath the Yellowstone supervolcano has been found. The newly found reservoir is about 12-28 miles below the surface, and is 4.5 times larger than the shallower, hot melted rock zone that powers current Yellowstone geysers and caused Yellowstone's last eruption 70,000 years ago.

The volume of the newly discovered, deeper chamber is 11,000 cubic-miles, which is about the volume of Long Island with 9 miles of hot rock piled on it.

“It's existence has been suspected for a while,” said University of Utah geophysicist Hsin-Hua Huang.

Far more carbon dioxide was being released from the ground at Yellowstone, previous research suggested, than could be explained by the smaller, shallower magma reservoir. That smaller reservoir was found using data from a local seismic array.

To see deeper,, scientists used a wider array to record how seismic waves from more distant earthquakes behaved as they passed through the unexplored zone under Yellowstone, Huang said. Seismic waves reveal a lot about the crust because they travel slower through hot rocks than through colder rocks. That wider seismic network came in the form of the USArray, a seismic network that's been crossing the continental United States since 2004.

“Until now we hadn't combined this data,” Huang said. It's the blending of that data that allowed Huang and his colleagues to see the giant hot, partially melted zone.

The data also revealed that the shallower magma chamber is about 9 percent melted rock, and the newly found lower chamber is 2 percent melted. Neither is a giant chamber of magma and neither is in any danger of erupting -- contrary to popular misconceptions -- say the researchers.

The actual image Huang and his colleagues produced was created by what's called seismic tomography.
